× ANNOUNCEMENT

It is with great pleasure that we announce to the academic community that Maria Isabel Gomes dos Santos is the winner of the European award “EDF-Oracle eAccessibility Scholarship” of 2017-2018. This event represents an indisputable recognition of the remarkable quality and cleverness of Isabel Santos. The awarded research work described masterfully by Isabel Santos in her PhD thesis, of the Doctoral Program in Multimedia in Education (DEP/DeCA), entitled “Digital technologies to support the development of the mathematical reasoning of students with autism spectrum disorder” is centered on the creation and validation of a digital prototype for children with autism spectrum disorder promoting the development of their mathematical capabilities. This work was developed by the Thematic Line GEOMETRIX, of the Center for Research & Development in Mathematics and Applications- CIDMA (DMat), emerging as a fruitful collaboration of the research centers CIDMA and DigiMedia (Digital Media and Interaction) of the University of Aveiro. It was an honor and a great privilege, for us, to have had the opportunity to supervise an academic with such tremendous talent. We could not be more proud of her. Many congratulations Isabel. The award ceremony will take place in the European Parliament, most probably, next September.

The supervisors,

Ana Breda
(Coordinator of the T.L. GEOMETRIX and member of CIDMA)

Ana Margarida Almeida
(Coordinator of the Health and wellbeing group and member of DigiMedia)
In 2015-2017, the Center for Research & Development in Mathematics and Applications is supported through the Portuguese Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT - Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia), within project UID/MAT/04106/2013.

The Center for Research & Development in Mathematics and Applications (CIDMA) is a research team hosted at the Department of Mathematics of the University of Aveiro. It was created in 2010 as a fusion between the research centers MA and CEOC, continuing the main goal of carrying out fundamental and applied research in several domains of Mathematics.

The CIDMA also aims to contribute for the scientific development of young researchers as well as for the preparation of new researchers through post-graduate and advanced education.

The CIDMA is one of the largest mathematical research centers in Portugal having over one hundred members and collaborators, and its scientific activities are organized in 8 research groups:
- Algebra and Geometry Group
- Complex and Hypercomplex Analysis Group
- Functional Analysis and Applications Group
- Gravitational Geometry and Dynamics Group
- History of Mathematics Group
- Systems and Control Group
- Optimization, Graph Theory and Combinatorics Group
- Probability and Statistics Group

In order to achieve its goals, the CIDMA promotes activities such as: regular talks, courses and seminars; dissemination of the scientific production of its team through the participation in scientific meetings; international cooperation (by means of visits to foreign countries and invitation of foreign researchers); organization of workshops and congresses; post-graduate and advanced research. In order to increase its contribution to social and economic development, the CIDMA also strives for an active participation in multidisciplinary projects in cooperation with other research teams.

On October 20th, 2016, CIDMA and the Department of Mathematics of the University of Aveiro hosted a Pedro Nunes Lecture delivered by Professor Jean-Pierre Bourguignon (CNRS-IHES).

On September 25, 2013, the Scientific Council of CIDMA adopted the Code of Practice of the European Mathematical Society.
