The Center for Research & Development in Mathematics and Applications (CIDMA) is a research team hosted at the Department of Mathematics of the University of Aveiro. It was created in 2010 as a fusion between the research centers MA and CEOC, continuing the main goal of carrying out fundamental and applied research in several domains of Mathematics.

The CIDMA also aims to contribute for the scientific development of young researchers as well as for the preparation of new researchers through post-graduate and advanced education.

The CIDMA is one of the largest mathematical research centers in Portugal having over one hundred members and collaborators, and its scientific activities are organized in seven research groups:
- Algebra and Geometry Group
- Complex and Hypercomplex Analysis Group
- Functional Analysis and Applications Group
- History of Mathematics Group
- Mathematical Theory of Systems and Control Group
- Optimization, Graph Theory and Combinatorics Group
- Probability and Statistics Group

In order to achieve its goals, the CIDMA promotes activities such as: regular talks, courses and seminars; dissemination of the scientific production of its team through the participation in scientific meetings; international cooperation (by means of visits to foreign countries and invitation of foreign researchers); organization of workshops and congresses; post-graduate and advanced research. In order to increase its contribution to social and economic development, the CIDMA also strives for an active participation in multidisciplinary projects in cooperation with other research teams.

SOME NUMBERS OF THE 2011 YEAR:
3 Books were published;
189 papers were published (7 as book chapters, 114 in peer review international journals, 6 in national journals, 61 in proceedings of international conferences and 1 in proceedings of national conferences);
215 talks were presented by elements of the team in conferences, workshops or research seminars
98 seminars were organized;
60 Scientists from abroad visited CIDMA;
34 visits of members of CIDMA were made to international research centers or universities;
6 Ph.D. and 14 M.Sc. theses were completed.

In January (2012) CIDMA was inviting applications for three postdoctoral positions for research in mathematics

EVENTS
THIRD ANNUAL WORKSHOP of Functional Analysis and Applications Group
This is the annual workshop of the Functional Analysis and Applications group where it is desirable that all the PhD members of the group and their PhDs students present a short talk (which may include open problems) - followed by discussion - in view of exchanging ideas and fomenting further research plans. [2012 tentative date: October 6]
2012-10-06
Integral Equations and Their Applications in Science and Technology
Section organized by Prof. Jozef Banas (Rzeszów University of Technology, Poland) and Prof. Luis Castro in the framework of the ICNPAA 2012 Congress (Vienna University of Technology, Vienna, Austria; July 10, 2012 – July 14, 2012). The aim of the session is to discuss both the theory of integral equations and their applications in engineering, mechanics, mathematical physics and so on. Special emphasis will be put on nonlinear integral equations, functional integral equations and the systems of integral equations. We are going to consider various topics of the theory of those integral equations which have a wide range of applications. The theory of fractional integral equations and their numerous applications will be also included
